This procedure is performed under general anaesthesia with overnight hospital stay. 

The surgery technique will depend on the amount of excess abdominal tissue to be removed. Technique will be discussed in detail during consultations. 

 A scar is designed along the lower abdominal area and the belly button is moved to its new position. Where required, abdominal wall muscles may be tightened using permanent sutures. 

Scars will be sutured using dissolvable sutures. An abdominal compression bandage will be applied at the end of surgery. 

We take every precaution to minimise risks of tummy tuck procedure. Potential risks include bleeding after surgery that can a return trip to theatre for evacuation. 

Wound infection usually settles with antibiotics. Fluid collection, also known as seroma, can occur, and may require drainage in clinic. 

Wound healing problems can occur, especially after massive weight loss surgery and may require regular dressings until fully healed. 

Abdominal wall swelling may take several months to improve. 

This procedure is suitable for both men and women who are in good health and have reached their target weight.  

For patients who have had bariatric surgery and have experienced massive weight loss, modifications of tummy tuck procedure may be suitable to address excess skin and fat around the lower tummy and back areas. Patients would need to have reached a stable weight and have good nutrition. 

Expected Recovery & Aftercare

• Most patients require 2-3 weeks recovery period. Wounds are reviewed after the first week and redressed.

• No heavy lifting advised for 4 weeks. Compression bandaging is worn for 6 weeks.

• Dramatic difference seen in clinic at 6 weeks, but the final results seen after 6 months once swelling has settled
