FAQs

Breast reduction is done under general anaesthesia with overnight stay. The technique used will be tailored to the patient and degree of breast reduction. The scars used will be an inverted T type of scar around the nipple areolar complex for moderate to large reductions. For small reductions, a vertical scar incision may be used. Drains may be inserted at the time of surgery to drain fluid collected in the breasts. 

We take every precaution to minimise risks and complications. Recovery after breast reduction typically involves some swelling, bruising, and discomfort, with full results becoming evident over several weeks to months. 

Potential complications include bleeding which may lead to a haematoma, which is collection of blood, that may necessitate a return to theatre for drainage. 

Expected Recovery & Aftercare

• Patients will be seen in dressings clinic after a week to monitor healing and change dressings.

• Dramatic difference will be visible although the breasts will be bruised and swollen for a few weeks.

• A sports bra is worn for six weeks.

• Most patients are able to resume most normal activities after seven to ten days.

• Sports activities can be resumed after six weeks.
