Rhinoplasty often referred to as a ‘nose job’ is a surgical procedure to define and shape the nose to better complement facial aesthetics. Rhinoplasty can also address breathing problems or restore the nose shape after trauma. Open vs. Closed Rhinoplasty

Closed rhinoplasty involves 2 hidden incisions placed within the inside of the nostril, whereas open rhinoplasty involves an additional incision at the base of the nose.

Closed rhinoplasty is suitable for patients who do not require nasal tip work. Open rhinoplasty is indicated for nasal tip and revisional surgery.

We take every precaution to minimise risks of rhinoplasty. 

Rhinoplasty procedure is not usually painful. 

Bruising around the nose and eyes is common and takes a couple of weeks to resolve. 

There is a small risk of infection, and this can be treated with antibiotics. 

Revisional surgery may occasionally be required if the result can be improved. 

Expected Recovery & Aftercare

• Rhinoplasty is performed as a daycase surgery under general anaesthesia. Nasal packs are applied at the end of surgery and are removed prior to going home.

• A splint is applied to the bridge of nose to contour and protect it for 1 week.

• Patients are seen in clinic in 1 week and results can be seen at 1 week after removal of the splint.

• Swelling and remodelling can take a few months to settle, with final result evident at 12 months.

• Nasal tip definition is dependent not only on tip surgery but also on the thickness of the patients skin that is redraped over the underlying bone and cartilage scaffold. Thick nasal skin can limit tip nasal definition.
