Top Breast Plastic Surgeons in the UK (2026 Guide)

Breast augmentation has been among the most popular cosmetic operations in the UK for years, and breast surgery is the area where the choice of surgeon makes the biggest difference.

Augmentation, uplift, reduction and revision all depend on judgement made long before theatre: which implant, which pocket, how much tissue, where the scars will sit and what your breasts will look like in ten years rather than ten weeks.

That judgement comes from training, volume and honesty, and it varies a great deal from one surgeon to the next.

This is our guide to some of the top breast plastic surgeons in the UK, chosen for genuine specialist credentials and patient safety.

We have spread the list across the country, from London and the South East to the Midlands, to Manchester, the North West and Scotland, because for surgery with months of aftercare, where your surgeon is based matters almost as much as who they are.

We set out our criteria first so you can weigh them yourself, and for each surgeon we have described what they are genuinely known for, because the right choice depends on what matters most to you.

How We Chose These Plastic Surgeons

These are the five things we weighted, and the things we would suggest you check whoever you see:
  • Specialist plastic surgery credentials. Is your surgeon a consultant plastic surgeon on the GMC Specialist Register, with FRCS (Plast) and membership of BAAPS or BAPRAS? These are the UK’s professional bodies for aesthetic and plastic surgery, and membership means the surgeon is fully trained in the specialty.
  • A genuine focus on breast surgery. Surgeons who have built their practice around breast surgery see more cases, including more of the difficult ones. Ask how many breast procedures they perform each year and which ones.
  • Honesty about implants over time. Breast implants are not lifetime devices. A good surgeon explains capsular contracture, rupture, rippling and the rare implant-associated lymphoma (BIA-ALCL) before you ask, and talks about what happens over the next ten or fifteen years as well as on the day.
  • A safe, regulated setting. In England, surgery should take place in a Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered hospital. In Scotland, independent hospitals are regulated by Healthcare Improvement Scotland. Either way, there should be proper theatre facilities, overnight cover and a clear plan if you need to be seen urgently.
  • Aftercare you can realistically reach. Breast surgery involves wound checks, follow-up appointments and occasionally an unplanned review. A surgeon five hours away can still be the right choice, but only if you have thought through how the aftercare will work.
Here is the shortlist at a glance.

1. Dr Hussain Plastic Surgery (Best for Breast Plastic Surgery, Led by a Breast Reconstruction Specialist)

Disclosure: this guide is published by Dr Hussain Plastic Surgery, which is why we appear first and why we have set out our criteria openly. Read them, compare us with the four surgeons below, and decide for yourself.

Dr Hussain Plastic Surgery is a consultant-led private practice in Manchester and at the Hale Private Clinic, founded by two consultant plastic surgeons. Dr Amer Hussain holds an NHS consultant post in the Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, with a specialist interest in breast surgery and microvascular breast reconstruction, and has completed fellowships in breast aesthetic and reconstructive surgery in the UK and Europe. Ms Fouzia Choukairi-Hussain is a British-trained consultant plastic surgeon with FRCS (Plast), a member of BAAPS and a consultant at the University Hospital of South Manchester. You can read more about both surgeons on our about page.

Why patients choose the practice. Reconstructive breast surgery is some of the most demanding work in the specialty, because the surgeon has to rebuild shape, symmetry and a natural position from very little. That same understanding of breast anatomy and blood supply carries directly into cosmetic work, whether it is a first breast augmentation, an uplift, a reduction or correcting a previous operation. The approach is personal: you meet the consultant who will operate, you are given time to ask questions, and the plan is built around your frame rather than a fixed package.

Worth knowing. We are a North West practice. If you live in London, the South East, the Midlands or Scotland, the aftercare will involve travel, and a surgeon closer to home from the list below may suit you better. Our surgeons are not national society officers either, so if you specifically want a surgeon who leads the profession at a national level, Ms Nugent or Mr Ho-Asjoe fits that brief. We would rather say that than pretend otherwise.

What patients say. We would always suggest reading recent, verifiable reviews yourself, on Google or a recognised platform, rather than relying on testimonials on any clinic’s own website, including ours.

Best for: patients in the North West and beyond who want aesthetic breast surgery from consultants with a reconstructive background, and the same surgeon from first consultation to final review. You can book a consultation at Dr Hussain Plastic Surgery to discuss whether surgery is right for you.

In the news: At Dr Hussain Plastic Surgery or surgeons Dr Amer Hussain and Dr Fouzia Choukairi have been featured in leading publications like The Telegraph, HELLO! magazine and OK! magazine. They have also worked with various celebrities, such as Helen Flanagan, Tanya Bardsley and Love Island’s Cally Jane Beech.

2. Mr Mark Ho-Asjoe (Best for Implant-Free Enhancement in London)

Mr Mark Ho-Asjoe is a consultant plastic surgeon at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital, where he is part of the breast reconstruction team, and practises privately from Wimpole Street in central London. He holds FRCS (Plast), is a member of BAPRAS and the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, and at the time of writing is Honorary Secretary of BAAPS, having previously served as a BAAPS Council Trustee. What he is known for. Breast enhancement without implants. Fat transfer, which he describes as lipo-modelling, uses liposuction to take fat from areas such as the abdomen or thighs and injects it into the breasts. The increase in size is more modest than an implant can give, and some of the transferred fat is naturally reabsorbed, but for women who want a subtle, natural change and would rather avoid a device that may need replacing in future, it is a genuinely different option. Having that conversation with a surgeon who is also a BAAPS officer, in central London, is a combination worth knowing about. Best for: women in London and the South East who want a modest, natural-looking increase and would prefer to avoid implants altogether.

3. Ms Nora Nugent (Best for a Surgeon Who Leads the Profession)

Ms Nora Nugent is a consultant plastic surgeon based in Tunbridge Wells who also operates at The McIndoe Centre in East Grinstead and consults on Harley Street. She was elected President of BAAPS in 2024 and has also served as President of ESAPS, the European Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. Before moving fully into private practice she was an NHS consultant at the Queen Victoria Hospital in East Grinstead for a decade, where she was Clinical Lead for Burns. What she is known for. Leadership of her profession at national and European level. Presidents of BAAPS spend their term on standards, patient safety and speaking publicly about the risks of poorly regulated cosmetic surgery, so a surgeon in that role has thought hard about what good practice looks like. Alongside that, she writes that a large part of her practice is secondary breast implant and revision surgery, for women whose first operation has not turned out as they hoped. If you are nervous about surgery and want the reassurance of a surgeon whose peers chose her to lead them, she is an obvious name. Best for: women in Kent, Sussex and the South East, and anyone who wants the reassurance of a surgeon at the very top of the UK’s aesthetic surgery body.

4. Mr Jonathan Staiano (Best for a Structured Approach to Choosing Your Implant)

Mr Jonathan Staiano is a consultant plastic surgeon with FRCS (Plast) and membership of BAAPS and ISAPS, practising at The STAIANO Clinic in Edgbaston, Birmingham. He spent five years as an NHS consultant, first at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge and then at City Hospital in Birmingham, and completed fellowships in cancer reconstruction at the Royal Marsden in London and in Wellington, New Zealand. What he is known for. Taking the guesswork out of choosing an implant. His clinic publishes a ten-step process and a three-part “Trident Approach” that combines examination, sizing and reviewing results for different implant shapes and profiles, and states that it is not tied to any single implant manufacturer. He has also written a patient guide to choosing a cosmetic surgeon, Never Accept A Lift From Strangers. For a patient who likes to understand the reasoning behind every decision, and who wants to see the method written down before the first appointment, that transparency is a genuine strength. Best for: women in the Midlands, and anyone who wants a clear, documented method for deciding on implant size and shape.

5. Mr Omar Quaba (Best for Breast Surgery in Scotland)

Mr Omar Quaba is a consultant plastic surgeon in Edinburgh with FRCS (Plast) and membership of BAAPS, BAPRAS and ISAPS. He trained at the Canniesburn plastic surgery unit in Glasgow and the Royal Adelaide Hospital, spent a decade as an NHS consultant, and was among the first surgeons in the UK to achieve certification under the Royal Colleges’ cosmetic surgery certification scheme. What he is known for. He is co-founder and Hospital Director of the Waterfront Private Hospital in Edinburgh, which he set up with his father, the plastic surgeon Mr Awf Quaba, so consultation, surgery and aftercare all happen within a hospital that he runs. Cosmetic breast surgery is one of his stated specialist interests, and patients travel from across Scotland, including Glasgow and Aberdeen, to see him. For a woman in Scotland, having a highly qualified breast surgeon within reach for every follow-up appointment is a practical advantage that no practice in England can offer. Best for: women in Scotland who want to be treated close to home in a surgeon-led private hospital.

Which Surgeon Is Right for You?

There is no single best breast surgeon in the UK, only the one who fits your circumstances:
  • You want aesthetic breast surgery from a consultant with a reconstructive background, in the North West: Dr Hussain Plastic Surgery.
  • You want a natural, modest change without implants, in London: Mr Mark Ho-Asjoe.
  • You want a surgeon who leads the profession nationally, or need revision surgery in the South East: Ms Nora Nugent.
  • You want a documented, step-by-step method for choosing your implant, in the Midlands: Mr Jonathan Staiano.
  • You live in Scotland and want your surgery and aftercare close to home: Mr Omar Quaba.
Whoever you see, check they are a consultant plastic surgeon on the GMC Specialist Register, ask how many breast operations they perform each year, ask what happens to your implants over the long term, and make sure you understand who will look after you if a complication arises. Our guide on why to choose a consultant plastic surgeon goes into more detail. A consultation with a qualified surgeon is essential before any decision, and no article can replace it.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I check a breast surgeon’s credentials in the UK?

Start with the GMC’s online register, which shows whether a doctor is on the Specialist Register and in which specialty. For breast surgery you are looking for plastic surgery. Then check for FRCS (Plast), which is the exit qualification for UK plastic surgery training, and membership of BAAPS or BAPRAS, both of which list their members online. Some surgeons also hold certification in cosmetic surgery from the Royal College of Surgeons. None of these tell you whether a surgeon is right for you, but together they tell you the surgeon is properly trained.

Is it worth travelling to see a particular breast surgeon?

Sometimes. If a surgeon has exactly the expertise your case needs, travelling can be worthwhile. The catch is aftercare: you will usually need a wound check around a week after surgery and further reviews over the following months, and if something needs attention quickly you want to be able to get there. Ask any surgeon you are considering how follow-up works for patients who live further away, and weigh that honestly against a well-qualified surgeon closer to home.

How long do breast implants last?

Breast implants are not designed to last a lifetime. Many women keep the same implants for many years without problems, but most will need further surgery at some point, whether to replace or remove the implants or to address changes in the breast as it ages. Our article on what happens to breast implants over time explains what to expect and what to keep an eye on.

What are the main risks of breast augmentation?

As with any operation there are the general risks of bleeding, infection and scarring. Implant-specific risks include capsular contracture, where the scar tissue around the implant tightens and can change the shape or cause discomfort, as well as implant rupture, rippling, changes in nipple sensation and, rarely, breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma (BIA-ALCL). Your surgeon should go through each of these with you before you consent. If you have already had surgery and are unhappy with the result, our guide to breast augmentation revision surgery covers the options.

Is this list biased towards Dr Hussain Plastic Surgery?

We publish it, so of course there is an interest, which is exactly why the disclosure sits at the top of our own entry and why we have set out the criteria openly. The four surgeons listed alongside us are genuinely well regarded, and we have described what each is known for rather than talking them down. For several of the situations above, and for anyone living a long way from Manchester, one of them may well be the better answer. Use the criteria, see more than one surgeon, and choose the one who fits your case. If you are in the North West, our guides to the best breast lift surgeons and the best breast reduction surgeons in Manchester cover those procedures locally.

A Final Word

The UK has some outstanding breast surgeons, and the best way to find the right one is to be clear about what you want, check credentials properly and see more than one surgeon before you decide. Breast surgery is a decision you will live with for many years, so it deserves an unhurried consultation with a consultant plastic surgeon who is honest about the risks and about what the operation can and cannot achieve. If you would like to talk it through, you can book a consultation at Dr Hussain Plastic Surgery in Manchester or at our Hale Private Clinic. If one of the other surgeons above is a better fit for your circumstances, we would encourage you to see them.
